Microneedling Q&A

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling, commonly known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment in which sterilized needles are used to create micro-punctures in the skin. These micro-punctures stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and new skin cell formation in the treatment area of choice, leading to an improved appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin tonicity, firmness, and texture, and a reduction in the appearance of scarring, dark spots, and enlarged pores.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING?

The benefits of microneedling can include: improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin tonicity, firmness, and texture, improving skin hydration, reducing the appearance of scars (including acne scars), stretch marks, enlarged pores, and dark spots, and may even promote hair growth in people with alopecia.

WHO CAN AND CANNOT GET MICRONEEDLING DONE

Upon your consultation, your technician will be able to help you evaluate whether or not microneedling is right for you. In general, most people in good health can get microneedling done. Microneedling is not recommended for those who are sick, undergoing or have undergone radiation therapy in the last year, are pregnant, have skin disease, or have a history of scarring or poor wound healing. Microneedling is also not recommended for those who have used Accutane in the last 12 months.

HOW MUCH DOES MICRONEEDLING TYPICALLY COST?

Upon your consultation, your technician will be able to give you a better idea of what your treatment plan and cost will look like. Individual results vary, and are highly dependent on after-care and at home healing. In general, 4-6 treatments are recommended, with results being most obvious after the 3rd treatment. Sessions typically begin at $295 per treatment, but price can vary depending on the extent and size of the treatment area.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Upon your consultation, your technician will be able to give you a better idea of what your treatment plan will look like. Individual results vary, and are highly dependent on after-care and at-home healing. In general, 2-6 treatments are recommended, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, with results being most obvious after the 3rd treatment.

WHAT KIND OF DOWNTIME CAN BE EXPECTED AFTER MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is considered minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime. You may experience minor signs of redness or irritation, which generally subside in 12-48 hours, and your skin may feel tight, swollen, or sensitive in the few days following the treatment. Aftercare is crucial, and it is recommended to avoid sun and chemical exposure for at least a week after treatment. Session results are typically achieved at 4-6 weeks, and are most obvious after the 3rd treatment.

IS MICRONEEDLING COVERED BY INSURANCE?

Unfortunately, in most cases microneedling is considered as a cosmetic treatment and most insurance providers and policies don’t cover its cost, unless prescribed by your doctor as medically necessary.
